Requirements

  • Prior Personal and/or Commercial Lines insurance account management, underwriting, sales, or related insurance experience of 3 to 5 years is strongly preferred.
  • Experience advising clients, analyzing coverage needs and working with multiple insurance carriers is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Personal and/or Commercial Lines Property & Casualty coverages, policy forms, endorsements, exclusions, and underwriting concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex or non-standard risk situations involving multiple variables and make reasoned insurance recommendations.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in evaluating risk, selecting markets, comparing coverage alternatives, and advising clients within delegated authority.
  • Strong client consultation, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex coverage issues in understandable terms.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize a book of business and manage multiple concurrent matters with limited supervision.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and agency management systems; Applied Epic experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current, active Maryland Property & Casualty insurance license is required as a condition of performing the Account Manager role.
  • The license must be maintained in good standing, including completion of all required continuing education and any agency-required compliance or carrier training.
  • The Account Manager must remain authorized and qualified to analyze client risk, evaluate coverage alternatives, recommend appropriate solutions, and transact Property & Casualty insurance in accordance with applicable law and agency policy.
  • Able to bend, sit, and stand to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
  • Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, scanners, and calculators.
  • Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary.
  • Must be able to receive and deliver detailed information through oral and written communication.
  • Must be capable of regular, dependable, and timely attendance.
  • Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team.
  • Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions.
  • Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence.
  • Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional insurance coursework, professional designation, or equivalent specialized Property & Casualty training is strongly preferred.
  • Applied Epic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Managed assigned accounts as primary insurance advisor, using professional judgement to meet client needs and provide timely service.
  • Analyze client risks, exposures, existing coverage, and objectives; identify coverage gaps, duplications, or emerging exposures.
  • Evaluate coverage and placement options, including carrier appetite, underwriting requirements, terms, limits, deductibles, exclusions, endorsements, and premiums; exercise delegated authority to determine which options are appropriate to present or recommend based on client risk and agency standards.
  • Advise clients on coverage alternatives, explain key advantages, limitations, and tradeoffs, and recommend solutions based on risk analysis.
  • Prequalify and rate new business, prepare submissions, and select appropriate markets based on risk characteristics and underwriting guidelines.
  • Review renewals before expiration, determine whether to renew, remarket or modify coverage, and recommend placement options to the client.
  • Use discretion and independent judgment to evaluate, negotiate, and resolve underwriting, coverage and service issues with carriers and clients within agency authority, including determining when alternatives, exceptions or escalation are appropriate.
  • Counsel clients on policy changes, endorsements, cancellations, and related coverage implications; recommend alternatives when needed.
  • Identify opportunities to broaden client coverage through Personal and Commercial solutions and make referrals to the appropriate area for additional products, services, or specialized needs.
  • Guide clients on claims reporting procedures and relevant policy provisions without making carrier coverage, adjuster, or settlement determinations.
  • Document material client discussions, recommendations, coverage decisions, and carrier communications; follow up in accordance with department standards.
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education, carrier resources, and industry knowledge relevant to risk analysis and client advice.
  • Exercise delegated authority to make recommendations and resolve coverage, placement, underwriting, and service matters that materially affect client accounts, while escalating issues involving unusual complexity, exceptions to agency standards, or significant financial or legal risk.
  • Perform incidental administrative tasks supporting the book of business, with such tasks remaining secondary to the role’s primary duties of risk analysis, coverage evaluation, insurance advice, placement recommendations, and account management.
  • Perform other job-related duties as needed.
  • Follow applicable insurance laws, agency policies, BSA responsibilities, and Fleetwood Insurance Group ethical standards.
