About The Position

Saint Louis University (SLU) is seeking an Accessibility Specialist to provide support for students with a variety of identified disabilities. The primary goal of this position is to create and promote an accessible and inclusive campus learning environment. This role involves reviewing diagnostic documentation, determining appropriate academic accommodations, promoting disability awareness, developing peer initiatives, overseeing testing center operations, and creating support structures aligned with university retention efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Working knowledge of the social media platform, Instagram
  • Knowledge of disability services and student affairs functions
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADA Amendments Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, The Fair Housing Act, and other related state and federal laws
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong technical skills
  • Strong counseling and advising skills
  • Commitment to supporting the needs of students from underrepresented populations
  • Ability to balance multiple concurrent tasks and responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and navigate Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) appropriately

Responsibilities

  • Review diagnostic documentation and meet with students to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations in accordance with federal, state, departmental, and University policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Maintain regular contact and follow-up with students registered with the CADR office.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with campus partners to connect students to beneficial campus resources.
  • Communicate with faculty to serve as an advocate for students.
  • Assist with testing center operations and exam-related accommodations.
  • Support the provision of alternate format texts and adaptive and accessible technology.
  • Analyze and create processes for the provision of other necessary academic accommodations (e.g., note taking, scribes, etc.).
  • Supervise/manage graduate and undergraduate staff.
  • Conduct onboarding and training for newly hired disability services staff members.
  • Promote staff development and engagement in line with best practices regarding educational accessibility and inclusion.
  • Identify and develop promising practices that will support the retention efforts of the University as it pertains to students with disabilities.
  • Create peer-lead initiatives.
  • Develop robust online support resources.
  • Enhance partnerships between University Departments.
  • Promote disability services to the campus community.
  • Provide consultation and support to faculty and staff regarding ways to support students with physical, learning, or psychological/psychiatric disabilities.
  • Manage the CADR social media Instagram account by conducting research, creating and designing content, checking accessibility of content, posting a minimum of two times per week, and keeping track of all posts in a Google Doc.
  • Manage data by creating departmental surveys; determining outcome goals, selecting target population, creating and dispersing survey, and collecting data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
