About The Position

The Employment Transformation Collective (ETC) from Northwest Center is looking for an Accessibility Partner to join our team! As an Accessibility Partner, you partner with a blind or low-vision professional in the technology field to anticipate and mitigate barriers and obstacles in the workplace and during the workday. Duties include providing sighted guidance and remediating inaccessible materials, among other responsibilities. We are seeking a tech-savvy individual with a professional demeanor and organized mindset, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to ongoing education in disability allyship and promoting an equitable workplace.

Requirements

  • One or more years of experience working in a disability and accessibility focused human services field highly preferred
  • Experience working with people who are visually impaired, or blind highly preferred
  • Tech-savvy with an in-depth understanding of various platforms and office software
  • Particularly MS Office and Google Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to safeguard confidential and sensitive information and to follow strict confidentiality agreements and guidelines
  • Strong administrative skillset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Experience related to accessibility tools and software
  • Knowledge of programming languages
  • Demonstrated understanding of the difference between doing a task for someone and enabling someone to do a task themselves

Responsibilities

  • Seeks to understand the ways to best partner with and empower the employee through relationship building
  • Clearly and professionally communicates visual cues and renders visual descriptions to the employee as appropriate
  • Remediates and reformats documents into an accessible format as needed
  • Maintains and supports an electronic document filing system
  • Supports daily key tasks such as taking notes, administrative tasks that may be inaccessible, remediating visual images and graphics for accessibility, interpreting visual cues such as body language and facial expressions, and creating presentations, in-person or virtual
  • Provides in-person support and sighted guidance
  • Proactively anticipates and addresses barriers, reprioritizing tasks based on the needs of the employee
  • Grows knowledge of support practices and skills on digital and physical accessibility tools through participation in self-research, learning different strategies, workshops, professional meetings, networking, and reading of current literature in the field of accessibility
