The Access to Justice Paralegal Fellows program supports the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii’s work providing legal services to low-income and disadvantaged individuals and families. Fellows are non-attorney advocates who work alongside and under the guidance of Legal Aid attorneys and paralegals. Positions are available full-time on O’ahu, with fellowships beginning in August 2026 or as soon thereafter as possible. The fellowship is intended to last one year, with a possible extension for a second year. Fellows assist unrepresented individuals navigating the civil justice system at courthouse-based self-help centers and in Legal Aid offices across the state. They also provide brief legal assistance to clients through the Family Law unit under attorney supervision and may represent clients in administrative hearings. Fellows take part in outreach and education and help develop self-help tools. Training is provided. The experience is suited to people exploring a career in law who are committed to community service.
