The Access to Justice Paralegal Fellows program supports the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii’s efforts to provide legal services to low-income and disadvantaged individuals and families. Fellows serve as non-attorney advocates, working alongside and under the guidance of Legal Aid attorneys and paralegals. Fellows assist unrepresented individuals navigating the civil justice system at courthouse-based self-help centers and in Legal Aid offices across the state. They work with private attorney volunteers, support center intake, provide procedural guidance on common legal issues, and gain experience in legal services delivery and volunteer coordination. Fellows also provide brief legal assistance to Family Law clients under attorney supervision and may represent clients in administrative hearings. They participate in community outreach and education and help develop self-help tools. The fellowships are intended to last one year, with a possible extension for a second year. They begin in August 2026, or as soon thereafter as possible. Full-time positions are available on O’ahu. A hybrid schedule may be available, with remote and in-office work on a weekly rotation subject to program and office needs; these conditions may change. Training is provided. The fellowship offers nonprofit experience, hands-on legal education and experience, and the opportunity to serve the community alongside committed team members.
