About The Position
This is a part-time position within the Elkhart County Judiciary-Court Services department. The primary responsibility is to assist in increasing access to justice for individuals who cannot afford or choose not to hire an attorney. The position is flexible, with up to 29 hours per week, and is located in Elkhart County. No travel is required.
Requirements
- Experience reading and interpreting legal documents of varying types and complexity
- Applying knowledge of specific laws, statutes and rules to individual cases without providing legal advice
- Practical knowledge of standard practices and procedures of the Court, legal terminology, and local judicial policies
- Working knowledge of issues facing people experiencing homelessness, violence, and poverty
- Ability to operate standard office equipment
- Pre-employment background check and drug screen required
Nice To Haves
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred
- Associate degree in criminal justice preferred; pre-law, public administration, or related field or equivalent experience considered
