About The Position

Boston College Libraries are seeking an Access Services Assistant to join the Access Services Department at O'Neill Library. Under the direction of the Offsite Collections and Delivery Services Manager, the Assistant plays a central role in fulfillment operations, collection maintenance, course reserves support, and library outreach, while also staffing service points at O'Neill and Bapst Libraries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Strong service orientation and excellent communication skills; ability to work with faculty, students, and staff
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively in a team-based environment
  • Ability to use social media platforms and commercial design software preferred (e.g., Canva or Adobe)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to operate the courier vehicle
  • Ability to lift heavy objects as defined by OSHA regulations and push a fully loaded book truck

Responsibilities

  • Processing incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan shipments (approximately 30,000 items annually), ensuring packaging and turnaround meet contractual standards with resource-sharing partners
  • Training and supervising student employees assigned to various fulfillment duties
  • Processing patron requests moving to and from three off-site storage facilities
  • Supporting Course Reserves workflows, including resolving broken links, processing resource lists, and responding to faculty, instructor, and student inquiries
  • Participating in collection maintenance projects across O'Neill, Bapst, and off-site locations, including shifting, inventory, and item record updates
  • Maintaining Access Services signage, promotional materials, and social media content in coordination with the library's Graphic Designer and Outreach Committee
  • Staffing and closing service points at O'Neill and Bapst Libraries, including circulation and returns processing, and serving as a primary contact for facilities or patron issues
