Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting an Acceptable Knowledge Expert (AKE) in Idaho Falls, ID. The Acceptable Knowledge Expert (AKE) supports the Contact-Handled (CH) Transuranic (TRU) Program by performing duties associated with Process Knowledge (PK) and Acceptable Knowledge (AK) information. This role works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to extract, analyze, and summarize data from production, historical, and document databases in support of investigations, issue resolution, regulatory compliance, and formal document generation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical discipline, and a minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of document development and proficiency with Microsoft Word.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data management and data analysis techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively across multiple teams.
  • Ability to qualify as an Acceptable Knowledge Expert within the Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project (AMWTP) certified program.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
  • Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, summarize, and document information related to waste-generating facilities, processes, physical and chemical characteristics, and applicable regulatory requirements for transuranic waste.
  • Enter and maintain historical record information within established tracking databases.
  • Extract and analyze information from multiple databases and data sets to support program objectives.
  • Utilize historical records to develop reports that meet regulatory, programmatic, and audit-specific requirements.
  • Evaluate container data to qualify containers for waste streams, treatment processes, and disposal pathways.
  • Interpret regulatory requirements, including Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC), Waste Acceptance Permit (WAP), and applicable regulations such as RCRA and TSCA, to ensure compliant waste management practices.
  • Initiate Nonconformance Reports and resolve Acceptable Knowledge issues as required.
  • Provide direct support to operations personnel to ensure compliance with site-specific and WIPP AK requirements.
  • Support preparation and execution of annual WIPP audits.
  • Interface with internal functional groups including Document Services and Information Technology.
  • Coordinate and interface with external organizations, including DOE entities, to support inbound waste shipment activities.
  • Interface with the Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) and DOE Idaho personnel as required in support of CH TRU waste activities.
  • Assist in training and qualification of other Acceptable Knowledge Experts.
  • Respond to departmental requests efficiently and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
