About The Position

Orlando Health Hospitals is seeking motivated Accelerated Senior Nurse Externs (ASNE) to join their team. This program is designed for nursing students who want to gain practical experience in specialty nursing, medical-surgical, or progressive care units. The externship offers a unique opportunity to learn from a trained preceptor in a one-on-one environment, apply knowledge gained in nursing school, and prepare for a future career as a Registered Nurse within Orlando Health. The program emphasizes developing early-career talent and investing in future team members.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Associate's or Bachelor of Science in Nursing program with an expected graduation date through August 2027.
• Candidates must have core nursing program courses and clinicals during the Summer semester.
• Availability to participate in the ASNE Program from February 8th, 2027 - until graduation, one 12-hour shift a week, with minimal absence required.
• Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
• Active BLS certification through the end of the program is required.

Nice To Haves

• Enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program preferred.
• Preference given to students who do not have the summer off during the nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Expose students to nursing departments to gain experience, confidence, and competence as they enter their senior year in nursing school.
• Work directly with a trained RN preceptor in a 1-on-1 setting to understand a day in the life of a nurse at Orlando Health.
• Participate in supplementary educational sessions to continue learning.
• Build confidence as a future nurse.
• Work at one hospital on an assigned unit.
• Work one 12-hour shift per week, following the preceptor's schedule.
• Explore and apply to system-wide nursing opportunities to secure a graduate nurse position while in the program.
