About The Position

The ACARN Climate Research Mobilization Assistant will be responsible for supporting the knowledge mobilization activities of the BC Agricultural Climate Action Research Network (ACARN). ACARN also delivers the BC FoodWeb, a multi-institutional knowledge mobilization portal designed to increase access to food systems research results and other resources for food producers, processors, policymakers, educators, and the public. They will work alongside the Network Manager and collaborate with network members to plan and deliver in-person and virtual knowledge exchange events. They will also collaborate with agricultural researchers to produce knowledge products such research briefs and fact sheets.

Requirements

  • High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Research and analysis experience.
  • Strong writing and editing skills required, in order to translate technical, research-based documents into plain language for a general audience.

  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer experience at an advanced level is required (e.g., Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel)
  • Must be adaptable and flexible.
  • Must have accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • at least an undergraduate degree in a field related to agriculture, preferably with a background in climate change adaptation or mitigation.
  • knowledge of Canva, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting regular reviews of relevant climate and environment agricultural research and monitor emerging regional issues, policies and projects.
  • Summarizing key research issues and themes into different knowledge products, e.g., research briefs and factsheets
  • Formatting knowledge translation products such as research briefs, infographics and fact sheets.
  • Facilitating input and feedback from agricultural sector stakeholders on climate and environment topics.
  • Supporting the design and coordination of events including developing agendas and workshop activities.
  • Assisting with the development and distribution of research related communication, through appropriate channels (website, e-news, social media, and print).
  • Maintaining and updating the ACARN and BC FoodWeb websites using WordPress and Drupal, including posting news items, events, and resources under guidance.
  • Contributing to annual progress reports evaluating the reach and effectiveness of communications and knowledge products.
  • Participating in stakeholder consultation and working groups where relevant
  • Performing other duties as required.
