About The Position

Join the UNH TRIO Upward Bound team for a short-term opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the college-going journey of high school students. We are seeking an Academic Year Advisor to provide advising, mentoring, and college-access support to students in Manchester High Schools. This is a temporary, part-time position of approximately 25 hours per week at $25 per hour, anticipated to run through the end of the first semester for the local high schools (mid-January). Since 1966, UNH TRIO Upward Bound has helped several thousand New Hampshire young people earn college degrees and improve their options for successful careers. Our program begins during the Academic Year where students will meet with advisers twice monthly in their schools and receive academic, career, and college assistance and guidance. In addition to in-school advising, students receive college & career guidance during grade-level workshops, have the opportunity to attend monthly Saturday Tutoring Academies at UNH and college, educational and cultural visits throughout New England. The program continues during the Summer Academic Academy where program participants get to experience residence hall life while living with other Upward Bound students on the UNH Durham campus Monday through Friday. They take courses led by highly qualified teachers to prepare them for the upcoming academic year. In addition, students will get support through tutoring, creative problem-solving challenges, and culturally enriching activities. The role of the Academic Year Advisor is to, at specific target schools, provide direct service delivery to Upward Bound participants. Services include academic advising, tutoring, career and college exploration, college entrance exam prep, guidance with the college admission and financial aid process, and financial and economic literacy.
