The role focuses on pure academic instruction, with no childcare, transportation, or household duties. The tutor will provide structured 1:1 sessions focusing on 4th-grade math, writing, and executive function skills, designing the learning experience rather than supervising homework. This position is ideal for a current or former elementary school teacher (K-5) seeking part-time afternoon hours, an education degree candidate with classroom or fieldwork experience, or an educator/nanny working mornings who wants consistent afternoon income. The schedule leaves mornings and Fridays open, with 12 guaranteed hours per week for reliable income. The student, Jake, is a bright, bilingual 8-year-old entering 4th grade who thrives in 1:1 settings. He is a strong reader with high energy and a tendency toward distraction, requiring a structured, warm educator who is prepared, consistent, and adaptable to keep him engaged. Primary academic focus areas include math (core need, 4th-grade curriculum with foundational gap work), writing (paragraph structure and written expression), executive function (assignment management, organization, planning), and general academic development (curriculum design and progress tracking).

Requirements

• Teaching credential, active education degree, or equivalent professional teaching background
• Strong working knowledge of 4th grade curriculum, with emphasis on elementary math instruction
• Experience delivering 1:1 tutoring or individualized academic instruction
• Ability to design a student-specific curriculum and track measurable progress
• Experience or genuine comfort working with attention-challenged learners (ADD/ADHD)
• Structured, professional approach — you come prepared and hold the session
• Warm, relatable presence with elementary-age children

Responsibilities

• Arrive to each session with a prepared instructional plan

• Submit a written weekly progress summary covering session content, student performance, and upcoming goals
