About The Position

Discovery Ranch for Boys is a relationship-based residential treatment center in Mapleton, Utah, that uses experiential therapy. Its students are young men who experience emotional, behavioral, and substance use disorders, including depression, anxiety, unhealthy relationships, trauma, and substance abuse. The Academic Tutor works one-on-one with students to help them achieve academic goals in Math, Science, and/or English, while also helping create a safe and supervised environment. Using a strengths-based approach, the tutor helps students recognize their strengths. Relationships formed with students are central to the healing process and to meaningful, lasting change. This is an entry-level, part-time position with opportunities to advance and gain professional behavioral and mental health experience.

Requirements

• Able to pass a criminal investigation background check.

Nice To Haves

• Academic tutoring experience is preferred but not required.
• First Aid and CPR certification; the employer may provide this.
• ICC certification; the employer may provide this.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students one-on-one in Math, Science, and/or English to help them achieve their academic goals.
• Help create a safe and supervised environment.
• Use a strengths-based approach to help students recognize the good within themselves.
• Build meaningful relationships with students as part of their healing process.
