About The Position

The Montefiore Einstein Center for Transplantation and the Division of Hepatology/Department of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine are seeking a dedicated Transplant Hepatologist to join our growing multidisciplinary team. We offer a high-volume, collegial environment serving a diverse patient population with complex liver disease and transplant needs. The position is currently open to candidates at the assistant, associate and professor of medicine levels, depending on experience and qualifications. Montefiore Medical Center is a large university hospital in Bronx, New York, with an extensive liver disease practice, including liver transplantation and liver cancer programs. Our liver transplantation program delivers comprehensive care to adult and pediatric patients, encompassing living donor transplantation and multi-organ transplantation in collaboration with the institution’s heart, lung, and kidney transplant programs. We are proud to have developed a successful integrated care clinic for patients with alcohol-related liver disease and offer Spanish-language, culturally competent clinics for Hispanic patients with advanced liver disease and/or alcohol-related liver disease. Our liver disease and transplant program is a multidisciplinary clinical practice which includes transplant/hepatobiliary surgery and hepatology within a single administrative structure. The hepatology and hepatobiliary practices operate in close conjunction with oncology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology to provide outstanding multidisciplinary care for patients with liver cancer.

Requirements

  • Completion of Fellowship training in GI and Transplant Hepatology from an ACGME-accredited program (or equivalent).
  • Board Eligible or Certified in both Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology
  • Eligible for NY state licensure
  • Demonstrated excellence in academic medicine and education

Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive care for patients with liver diseases, including those undergoing liver transplantation
  • Oversee an inpatient service of patients with advanced liver disease, pre- and post-liver transplantation, including supervision and teaching of internal medicine residents and gastroenterology/transplant hepatology fellows
  • Perform hepatology consultation at Montefiore Moses and/or Weiler campuses
  • Opportunity to perform endoscopy if desired
  • Sustainable call rotation consisting of 6 weekends/year
  • Maintain an academic appointment within the Division of Hepatology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine
  • Engage in clinical research as aligned with the candidate's areas of interest
  • Participate in the education and mentorship of medical students, residents and fellows through lectures, conferences, and clinical teaching
  • Opportunities for collaboration with the NIH-funded Marion Bessin Liver Research Center as well as the Cancer Center are available
  • Participate in initiatives for clinical quality, patient safety, and program growth within the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Transplantation
  • Potential for leadership roles in specialized areas depending on the candidate’s expertise and interests, especially in quality improvement, use of innovative technologies, and care pathways in transplant hepatology
