Academic Success Program Associate (CSLP FWS)
About The Position
Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) to improve the quality of life for community residents. GCU has a partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of the Valley – AZ (BGCAZ) to foster academic excellence, strong character, leadership development, healthy lifestyles, and workforce preparedness. This Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) student worker position is approved as Community Service, providing services to non-GCU community members. The work schedule is dependent on BGCAZ's hours of operation and needs, with a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year and potential for summer employment. Applicants must complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be reviewed for Federal Work-Study (FWS) eligibility.
Requirements
- Enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
- Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
- Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
- Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
- Must have reliable transportation.
Nice To Haves
- Previous Mentoring a plus.
- Ability to speak a second language a plus.
Responsibilities
- Provide small-group tutoring in reading and math for students in grades K–2, 3–4, and 5–6.
- Facilitate high-yield learning enrichment activities for students in grades K–6.
- Provide age-appropriate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activities in alignment with BGCAZ’s STEM curriculum.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
