About The Position

This part-time exempt employee position is for the 2026-2027 school year at Madroña Academy of the Arts and Sciences. The Academic Specialist - Science will work 10 hours per week, reporting to the Site Principal. The role involves preparing and facilitating science lessons and instruction alongside classroom teachers, with a focus on in-person support for physical science and STEM labs. The specialist will also provide leadership and participate in programs promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. A certificated specialist is desired but not required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalency.
  • Knowledge of fundamental principles, methods, and procedures of operating computers and peripheral equipment.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals in classroom behavior management and support.
  • Knowledge of classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, policies, and regulations related to assigned activities.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware systems and software applications utilized by the District.
  • Understanding of nondiscrimination in employment, including adherence to BP 0410 regarding protected characteristics.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and facilitate science lessons aligned with curriculum standards.
  • Support integration of STEM concepts into general education classrooms.
  • Lead hands-on physical science and STEM lab activities.
  • Provide direct instruction to small groups or whole classes as needed.
  • Assist in developing engaging, inquiry-based science lessons.
  • Adapt materials to support diverse learners and instructional goals.
  • Contribute to a culturally responsive learning environment.
  • Participate in initiatives and activities that support diversity, equity, and inclusion in science education.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Serve as a resource for science instructional strategies and materials.
  • Set up, maintain, and manage science lab materials and equipment.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to classroom teachers.
  • Provide input on program development and instructional improvements.
  • Support school-wide science events, fairs, or STEM nights.
