About The Position

UCSF Academic Personnel Office seeks an Academic Analyst to provide academic personnel assistance within the Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost organization at UCSF. The Academic Analyst will serve a range of academic populations to include paid and academic affiliated without salary appointments.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience.
3+ years of experience in UC, other university Academic Personnel services or related experience with high level HR activities and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to apply/interpret system wide and campus policies and procedures which govern academic personnel & HR.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audience both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated skill in prioritizing competing work assignments and integrating information to determine appropriate courses of action and their implications.

Nice To Haves

Has a strong understanding of compensation policies, CBA, and procedures governing academic employees and health sciences compensation plans for client schools/departments, funding requirements and implications for academic and postdoc employees.

Responsibilities

Analyzes and interprets guidelines and policies to provide advice and counsel to unit clients on issues such as onboarding, appointment, compensation, work-eligibility (visa) matters, and benefits considerations.
Provides counsel to departments in administering policies and programs in the areas of appointment, visa applications/processing, and recommending appropriate appointment types.
Applies strong customer service orientation to proactively respond to and resolve concerns; initiates and responds to inquiries; proactively keeps customers informed of status.
Partners with other teams, specialty centers to perform AP & HR duties on behalf of clients.
Understands who the critical stakeholders are in policy development, interpretation and implementation and escalates complex situations accordingly.
Learns customer needs and applies knowledge of how policies and procedures are interpreted and implemented by different customers/departments; synthesizes different policies with overlapping influence according to customers’ unique needs and goals ensuring policy compliance.
Review and work the cases within PeopleConnect and respond to client emails or requests, ensuring internal deadlines are met.
Uses a variety of UCSF human resource information systems including PeopleConnect, UCPath, Advance, and HBS/MyTime.
Provides ad hoc reports as necessary.
Facilitates/manages the academic onboarding, appointment and review processes, identifying issues relating to policy and compensation.
Administer faculty, non-faculty academic, and trainees’ appointment and advancement actions in a timely manner in accordance with various deadlines and established policies and contracts.
Identifies and customizes training needs for diverse constituencies.
Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
