About The Position
The Academic Instructor, PRN (as-needed basis), provides instruction in basic education subjects, including mathematics, science, social studies, reading, writing, and language arts. The goal is to help inmates/students develop skills that contribute to their growth as mature, responsible citizens. The instructor maintains a positive learning environment, uses secure classroom management practices, and develops lesson plans appropriate to students’ levels.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
- Possess a certificate or license in accordance with Tennessee Department of Education standards to teach in the state of employment.
- Obtain and/or maintain required agency credentials as a condition of continued employment.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
- Have a valid driver's license.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
Nice To Haves
- Three years of classroom instruction experience.
Responsibilities
- Prepare course objectives in accordance with curriculum standards and applicable contract requirements.
- Plan a program of study, lesson plans, assignments, and tests under general supervision.
- Provide instruction using course outlines, handouts, texts, audiovisual aids, and other materials.
- Administer tests to evaluate students’ progress and competency in the subject matter.
- Assist students with individualized instruction as needed.
- Maintain a positive learning environment and use secure classroom management practices.
