About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Student-Athlete Academic Services (Student Success / Academic Affairs) invites applications for the Academic Eligibility Specialist position. This position exists to provide support to student-athletes in their efforts to achieve their academic, athletic, and personal goals while negotiating the myriad of institutional, Mountain West Conference (MWC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations concerning eligibility for practice, competition, and financial aid. This position is responsible for being proactive with monitoring students' academic progress, providing reports to their supervisor, compliance staff and coaches and for ensuring the timely certification of their designated sport teams. Specialists are also actively involved in the recruitment process and for providing the appropriate academic support through the student-athlete's graduation from the institution. This position will be assigned teams and/or student-athlete cohorts as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletics Director, Student-Athlete Academic Services. Evening and weekend work are sometimes required, as well as occasional travel with teams. This is an in-person, on-campus position. Other duties will be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • Degree in an area related to Student-Athlete Academic Services (Education, Sports Management, Counseling, etc. or related field) from an accredited college or university.
  • 1-3 years part- or full-time experience working directly for intercollegiate Student-Athlete Academic Services or in a comparable higher education area (general academic advising, etc.).
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.
  • Highly functional with regard to decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to balance a wide variety of tasks and a large caseload in an efficient and effective manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working at a Division-I NCAA Institution.
  • Previous work experience with UNLV and MWC policy and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the policies, procedures, and practices of academic support services related to student-athletes.
  • Some nights and weekends may be required.
  • Video conferencing may be part of the search process.

Responsibilities
