About The Position

The Academic Coordinator is the primary point of contact for an assigned group of Gillings students. This individual supports each assigned student by guiding their educational planning and progress, connecting them with resources that will maximize student success, proactively identifying and helping remove barriers, and responding to all types of issues identified by the student or by faculty that could impede student progress. The Academic Coordinator uses a high touch approach, maintaining a wide network of connections and collaborating flexibly with faculty and with other Academic Coordinators to ensure that each student s experience is maximized in a positive way. The Academic Coordinator is a key part of recruitment and admissions activities, working closely with faculty and with Enrollment Management staff to help attract and admit top students.

Requirements

  • Extensive professional experience in academic advising, student affairs, student counseling, or a related higher education student support role.
  • Experience developing and delivering student support initiatives that promote student success and enhance the student educational experience.
  • Professional experience supporting undergraduate, graduate, and/or doctoral student populations.
  • Knowledge of academic advising and student support practices within higher education.
  • Ability to effectively work with and support individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply university policies, procedures, and external regulations in student services and advising practices.
  • Commitment to student-centered service.
  • Understanding of graduate and professional student experiences and support needs.
  • Ability to support students balancing academic, professional, and personal responsibilities.
