About The Position

This position works with Talent Search participants ranging from grades 6 through 12 to develop academic goals and action plans, provides academic advising, coordinates academic services, and delivers workshops and programs to participants and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in K-12 education, student services, psychology, or a closely related field required.
  • Minimum of three (2) two years of experience working in counseling/guidance/advisement with children and teenagers in a public or private school (K-12) setting with varied demographics required.
  • Ability to select, administer, and analyze achievement and aptitude tests appropriate for children and teens.
  • Knowledge of academic and support interventions known to be effective with the target population.
  • Ability to relate positively to students, families, school personnel (specifically teachers and counselors), staff and supervisors.
  • Excellent skills in communication, and ability to communicate positively both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to read and interpret course offerings and academic transcripts.
  • Ability to attend to details and complete tasks in a time sensitive manner with high accuracy.
  • Ability to effectively work with students and assist with student concerns or issues.
  • Computer and software skills including Excel spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to provide motivation and support for students and staff members as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Significant experience identifying, developing and delivering academic support services to eligible students and prior experience administering federal grants highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, administer, and analyze tests and assessments leading to ETS Action Plans for students.
  • Schedule academic services for each student as indicated by the assessments; develop, implement and monitor the non-academic interventions indicated on student TSAP’s.
  • Work directly with students in areas of career awareness and career exploration, academic course selection and program planning, and personal goal setting.
  • Develop and implement workshops for students and families on topics specified in the Plan of Operation, as indicated by assessment data, and/or recommended by Director/Counselors/Team.
  • Assist the Director in collection and analysis of data for evaluation.
  • Perform customer service functions, responding to program requests/questions, applicant inquiries, and providing departmental forms.
  • Assist with new student applications and student forms, in office and in school settings.
  • Inputs data into ETS databases, creates new student files, files individual documents into appropriate files, and transfers files according to student status.
  • Develop, assist, and participate in ETS events, activities and presentations.
  • Work with the Director to determine the needs of the ETS program and its students and take initiative to meet those needs through additional programming, resource allocation, workshops, etc.
  • Visit local schools to interact with students, recruit new program participants, and deliver programming.
  • Coordinate with community groups, colleges/universities, and businesses to arrange trips, experiential learning, and other programming.
  • Supports and serves as a positive role model for the mission, vision, and values of Mid and adheres to all policies and procedures of the college and Federal Department of Education.
  • Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College’s Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.
