About The Position

Pinnacle Hill, LLC, a partnership between The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Deerfield Management, aims to discover new medicines for diseases with significant unmet medical needs. Deerfield will provide up to $65 million in funding and drug development expertise to advance research at UNC-Chapel Hill. Pinnacle Hill, LLC will identify and develop potential drug candidates through various stages, focusing on commercially viable unmet medical needs. Successful technologies will be licensed for further development and commercialization. The Academic Collaboration Alliance Manager will build and manage this public-private partnership, engaging with the UNC research community to identify, evaluate, and advance therapeutic opportunities aligned with Pinnacle Hill's priorities. This involves scientific and strategic assessment of projects and facilitating their progression through review processes.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated understanding of the drug development process.
  • Direct experience working in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Project management experience with the ability to develop milestone-based work plans.
  • Ability to work effectively across complex organizations.
  • Knowledge of academic policies and processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to work cross-functionally, manage crisis, and align interests of multiple parties.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated strong presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 7-8 years experience.
  • Experience in alliance management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage the public-private partnership between UNC-Chapel Hill and Deerfield Management.
  • Proactively engage with the UNC research community to identify, evaluate, and advance promising therapeutic opportunities aligned with Pinnacle Hill priorities.
  • Conduct early-stage scientific and strategic assessment of potential projects.
  • Facilitate the progression of projects through internal and external review processes.
  • Develop collaborative work plans.
  • Manage the economic and health impacts of new drugs.
