SERVE for Veteran Students is one of the Federal TRIO programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education to identify and provide services to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. SF’s SERVE program is designed to identify, select, enroll, retain, serve, and assist veterans who are low-income, first-generation college students, and/or individuals with disabilities to increase retention, graduation, and transfer rates of SF students who meet the program eligibility requirements. The Academic Coach is responsible for identifying and selecting program participants and for encouraging students throughout their college experience. The Academic Coach helps students successfully graduate from college by providing personalized coaching, mentoring, academic advisement, tutoring, financial literacy, transfer advising, study skills development, and career development. This position is funded by either a grant or another donor-funded source external to the college. Should the funding provided by these special sources be reduced or eliminated, employees will be given as much notice as possible.
