About The Position

The Academic Coach will serve as a full-time, supplemental, teacher-focused resource dedicated to improving teacher practice and student achievement. The role involves a blend of classroom coaching (50-60% of time) and other coaching responsibilities (40-50% of time), including professional development, data analysis, and coordination with school leadership. The coach will focus on leadership, accountability, support, and communication to foster continuous academic improvement.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
  • Certification/Licensure in appropriate teaching area
  • NCLB Highly Qualified
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in computer applications
  • Knowledgeable in use of web resources, online tools, technology tools, etc.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks
  • Satisfactory completion of local, state, and federal criminal history check

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the structure and design for high-quality, school- and team-based professional learning that supports teacher and student learning.
  • Act as a catalyst to support continuous academic improvement.
  • Articulate the intended results of professional learning on teacher practice and student achievement.
  • Model the use of effective collaboration skills.
  • Facilitate the analysis of student achievement and teacher professional development data to determine the impact on student learning and teacher practice.
  • Increase teachers’ capacity to analyze research to make instructional decisions.
  • Advance teachers’ understanding and use of various strategies to assess student progress toward established goals and to improve teaching practice.
  • Act as a resource to support job-embedded professional learning and improved academic achievement in the school.
  • Engage teachers in data analysis and interpretation of data from multiple sources to determine student and teacher needs.
  • Facilitate a variety of in-depth, sustained professional learning experiences aligned with the school improvement goals for student achievement.
  • Advance teacher’s deep understanding and use of content knowledge and research-based instructional strategies to help students meet rigorous academic standards.
  • Provide classroom-based support for implementation of new and/or refined instructional practices.
  • Create structures and processes for collaborative work that promote collegiality and shared responsibility.
  • Assure that time available for professional learning and collaboration is used to enhance quality teaching and student learning.
  • Keep school leader, school board, and other stakeholders aware of activities, progress, obstacles, and successes in student achievement and improved teacher practice.
