About The Position

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is seeking an Academic/Career Advisor for its Marinette Campus. This role is responsible for advising students on academic requirements, career exploration, academic abilities, and goal setting. The advisor will assist with registration and graduation, provide guidance on course selection, curriculum changes, credit load, and financial aid processes. They will also present academic and career information to students and parents, make recommendations for complex student challenges, and support students in career decision-making, experiential learning, job search strategies, and career/life planning. Collaboration with staff and faculty is essential to provide comprehensive advising services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • A minimum of two years related experience.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the District’s standard insurance policy terms.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in advising and career assessment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Use coaching framework to assess student development (academic, career, personal) and promote growth by determining suitable developmental tasks and assisting students in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals.
  • Advise students regarding course content, course selection, prerequisites, curriculum changes, recommended credit load, and curriculum planning to ensure timely graduation.
  • Coach students on academic, career, and personal issues; identify and assist with the analysis of appropriate educational and career options, including possible outcomes and their implications.
  • Refer students to appropriate student services when needed and set up an action academic plan for the student to meet their academic and/or transfer goals.
  • Provide students career counseling and assistance in career decision-making, experiential learning opportunities, professional job search strategies, career/life planning, skills assessment, and portfolio development.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and faculty on providing direct student and career-related support to program students.
  • Interpret and explain college policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the preparation of campus events and present academic/career information to students at campus events and in classrooms (presentations, orientation, enrollment, and degree process).
  • Leverage new and existing technologies to proactively balance and maintain assigned student caseload.
  • Track student interactions using notes and other documentation in the appropriate systems.
  • Gather and interpret data to prepare and analyze reports for retention, tracking, and accountability.
  • Manage student communication regarding program policy changes and curriculum updates.
  • Advise students on credit for prior learning and prepare appropriate documentation.
  • Advise students on general financial aid information and assist with financial aid appeals.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with employers to support the development of internships, career opportunities and assess future hiring needs.
  • Provide students with individual and group assistance in exploring career resources, building resumes, cover letters, interview skill building, and professional networking and to utilize online systems for job search.
  • Maintain and enter student data, tracking student’s interactions and academic/career plans; analyze and prepare reports for retention, tracking and accountability.
