The Academic Advisor I or II position at Texas A&M Engineering is responsible for providing academic advising to students, grounded in the tenets of practice outlined by the National Association of Academic Advising (NACADA) and appropriate academic advising and student development theories. This role involves advising on course selection, registration, academic planning, career and educational goal-setting, identifying appropriate resources, assisting with transitioning to the university, and addressing retention issues. Advisors will work with both current and prospective students in group and individual settings, monitor academic progress, and implement intervention strategies for students facing academic challenges. The position also focuses on promoting student learning, development, and personal growth to empower self-sufficiency, providing proactive referrals to resources, and utilizing various communication methods (email, texting, social media) for targeted outreach. A key aspect of the role is assisting with the implementation of retention programs and interventions for all students, while applying knowledge of State, University, and college policies and procedures, and maintaining accurate records of student contacts.
