About The Position

This position provides one-on-one as well as group academic, career and college transfer advising to students resulting in a heightened level of student engagement, comprehensive decision-making and utilization of a vast array of services to support student success. This position includes both day, evening and weekend hours (particularly during peak periods). The hours of the Student Success Center: Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Fridays 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays (as needed) with hours of 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and seasonal Saturdays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. All hours will be coordinated with the supervisor to ensure coverage and needs of the College. Posting will close on Sunday, October 11th. This position has college-wide responsibilities and requires travel between all campuses and off-site locations. This position requires the candidate to submit the following 3 clearances as a condition of pre-employment: Child Abuse Clearance, PA State Police Check, and FBI Fingerprints. Flexible work may be considered for this position.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Advising experience required, preferably at a community college.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of student development theory, including career and transfer decision making.
  • Experienced in developmental or college level advising.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of technologies.
  • Evidence of continued professional growth and development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work with diverse populations, such as under-resourced groups and first-generation students.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to a comprehensive community college philosophy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Health Science students and/or Minority populations preferred.
  • Bilingual/multilingual/Spanish-speaking preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides academic, transfer and career counseling.
  • Advises prospective, new and returning students concerning an educational plan that assists in meeting academic and/or professional goals.
  • Participates in case management for identified students (i.e. probation, Early Alert, etc.).
  • Serves as liaison between Student Affairs and other College units such as Academic Affairs, etc.
  • Participates in College Outreach activities such as Open House, New Student Orientation and high school on-site advising, etc.
  • Supports the Contact Center with answering and responding to academic advising calls, emails and participates in e-advising (i.e. web chat).
  • Engages in on-going learning through innovative professional development including, but not limited to, workshops, conferences, and other professional meetings that promote currency in discipline knowledge and instructional methods.
  • Acts as a resource for faculty and staff.
  • Works as a collaborative, professional member of the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management team.
  • Provides service to the College and represent the College in the community as delineated in the collective bargaining agreement and faculty promotion guidelines.
  • Attends scheduled department and general faculty meetings, as well as contractual obligations such as professional development days, convocation, and commencement.
  • Adheres to professional and ethical standards of conduct.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
