About The Position

Rockhurst University is seeking an Academic Advisor for the College of Business and Technology (CB&T). This role involves assisting undergraduate students with academic guidance, ensuring they meet graduation requirements, explore majors, plan courses, and prepare for graduate programs. The advisor will maintain student academic files, facilitate academic progress through educational plans, and make referrals for students needing additional support. This position also coordinates orientation sessions, collaborates with external entities for student services, and serves as a member of the Student Success Network, providing outreach and support. The advisor will also assist faculty with students of concern and is expected to promote inclusivity and sensitivity within the college and the wider Rockhurst community. The role reports to the Senior Director of Student Success and is a 12-month position. Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience in case managing, advising, or student success efforts.
  • Knowledge of technology, especially accessibility tools and online student success software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work as a valuable team player.
  • Ability to function independently while managing and prioritizing multiple job assignments.
  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Effective project management skills; detail and deadline oriented.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field is preferred.
  • A master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Experience with assessment.
  • Experience designing inclusive programming that responds to a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with students interested in CB&T to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues, such as graduation requirements and exceptions, major exploration, course planning and registration, transfer credit evaluation/substitution, and graduate program preparation.
  • Maintain students’ academic files, including a record of the advising activity that takes place each visit.
  • Facilitate students’ academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate educational plans.
  • Make referrals for students who need assistance with overcoming learning obstacles, specialized tutoring, extended or intensive assistance with career decisions, or similar needs.
  • Coordinate and participate in the advising-related portion of new/transfer students and family SOAR (Summer Orientation, Advising, and Registration) and orientation sessions.
  • Identify and collaborate with external entities for services, assistance, or information helpful to students including healthcare providers, social services agencies, grant institutions, etc.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Success Network, providing outreach and support to designated students.
  • Assist faculty with students of concern.
