About The Position

Temple University's Center for Performing & Cinematic Arts is searching for an Academic Advisor II. This role advises students on academic schedules, long-term plans, major choices, academic standing, resource utilization, and policy interpretation. The Academic Advisor II maintains extensive student records, collaborates with faculty on student concerns and curriculum changes, and disseminates academic information with advising staff. They also develop and deliver outreach for first-year student success initiatives. The position involves meeting with students individually or in groups to provide information and resources for academic, career, and personal goals. A key aspect of this role is developing, implementing, and managing projects to enhance student success and retention. Requirements

  • Master's degree and one and a half years of experience, including six months advising experience in an academic setting in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development and implementation.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong customer service and diplomacy skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to accurately complete detail-oriented, time-sensitive tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong writing skills and a high degree of proficiency in the use of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Advises students on appropriate academic schedule and long-term plans, choice of major, academic standing, utilization of appropriate resources, and interpretation and application of major, school/college, and university policies to their circumstances.
  • Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of extensive student records.
  • Collaborates and partners with faculty in CPCA to discuss student concerns and implement changes in curricula and other requirements.
  • Collaborates with other CPCA advising staff to disseminate academic related information.
  • Develops and delivers outreach related to first-year student success initiatives within CPCA and the university.
  • Meets with students in individual or group settings, providing access to information and resources necessary for the achievement of academic, career and personal goals.
  • Plays a critical leadership role in developing, implementing, and managing innovative projects designed to enhance student success.
  • Engage in a variety of activities designed to achieve, maintain, and improve student success and retention, and provide students with access to the information and resources necessary for the attainment of academic, professional, and personal goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
