About The Position

Mays Business School is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and student-focused Academic Advisor I to help drive engagement and empower students to achieve their academic and career goals. As an Academic Advisor, you will play a vital role in maximizing undergraduate student retention by building relationships with students and assisting with clarifying procedures and academic requirements for specific programs or majors at Mays. We are looking for an effective communicator who thrives on initiating and maintaining relationships while ensuring that students have everything they need to reach their goals and achieve more. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Proficiency level of novice in initiating, building, and maintaining effective relationships.
  • Proficiency level of novice in communicating with others in a clear and concise manner that is audience appropriate.
  • Proficiency level of novice in researching information to meet situation parameters.
  • Proficiency level of novice in collaborating with others within and across departments/groups.
  • Proficiency level of novice in actively listening to determine speakers’ goals, needs, and/or challenges.
  • Proficiency level of novice in organizing, prioritizing, and working effectively to meet goals and parameters of simultaneous projects.
  • Proficiency level of advanced beginner in ability to use various computer programs to include word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Proficiency level of advanced beginner in ability to work with confidential information.

Nice To Haves

  • TAMU Academic Advising experience.
  • Experience with higher education information management systems such as Howdy and Compass, etc.
  • Familiarity with Mays undergraduate curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Maximizing undergraduate student retention by building relationships with students.
  • Assisting with clarifying procedures and academic requirements for specific programs or majors at Mays.
