About The Position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Academic Advisor I in Boca Raton, FL. This position provides holistic academic advising, supports student success, and monitors academic plans to ensure degree progress and timely graduation in a collaborative, student-centered environment.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Knowledge of the Appreciative Advising framework or willingness to learn and implement it.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising to all undergraduate programs within the College of Engineering & Computer Science.
  • Assist students with term-by-term course selection and the development of long-term study plans.
  • Guide incoming transfer students in determining course equivalencies and registering for courses.
  • Maintain accurate records related to ABET accreditation and timely graduation.
  • Perform graduation degree certification.
  • Employ the Appreciative Advising framework to build rapport with students, discover their strengths, and help them dream, design, and deliver their academic goals, and never settle for less than their best.
  • Participate in college and university recruitment and outreach activities to support student enrollment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student success and retention initiatives.
  • Maintain close communication with students, supervisors, and colleagues to ensure a cohesive advising approach.
  • Foster a supportive, collaborative, and relaxed environment for our students and staff.
  • Complete critical forms such as financial aid documents, NCAA forms, international regulations, etc.
  • Provide information about educational opportunities (internships, graduate studies, honors programs, etc.) and special services tailored to students’ specific needs.
  • Assist students experiencing academic difficulties by connecting them with appropriate campus resources.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, professional development seminars, and other student support-related meetings.
  • Provide cross-training to academic staff as necessary.
