About The Position

Temple University's College of Engineering is searching for an Academic Advisor! This role provides academic advising and support to undergraduate students, assisting with course selection, academic planning, major exploration, credit load decisions, and matters related to academic standing. The advisor collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to communicate curriculum requirements, interpret policies, and resolve academic concerns. The position also supports registration activities and connects students with campus resources. The advisor meets regularly with students to discuss goals and monitor progress, prepares and presents orientation sessions, and develops educational counseling services to improve student success and retention. Additionally, the advisor coordinates advising with career planning, acts as an advocate and referral source, and represents the College at meetings and events. The incumbent helps facilitate communication of the College's and University's vision, mission, policies, and academic goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least two (2) years of directly related experience in an academic setting in higher education
  • Ability to work with student information systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to maintain a positive and objective approach when confronted with difficult situations
  • Strong customer service skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of students, faculty, administrators and staff
  • Ability to prioritize well and focus on completion of tasks and objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to utilize word processing and database software
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to speak in from of small and large groups

Responsibilities

  • Provides academic advising and support to undergraduate students in the College of Engineering.
  • Assists students with course selection, academic planning, major exploration, credit load decisions, and matters related to academic standing and probation.
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to communicate curriculum requirements, interpret university and college policies, and resolve academic concerns.
  • Supports registration activities and helps connect students with appropriate campus resources to promote academic success.
  • Meets regularly with assigned students, individually or in a group, to discuss academic and professional goals and monitor academic progress.
  • Prepares and presents student orientation sessions.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements educational counseling services geared to improving student success and retention.
  • Helps to coordinate advising with career planning.
  • Acts as an advocate and referral source by providing consistent outreach and follow-up services.
  • Represents the College at various related internal and external meetings and events.
  • Helps facilitate communication of the Vision, Mission, policies and procedures, and academic goals of the College and Temple University while assisting with their development and implementation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
