About The Position

Marian University seeks an Academic Advisor/Administrative Assistant for the Leighton School of Nursing (LSON) at the Plymouth Campus. This dual role supports the university's Catholic Franciscan mission by fostering student success through academic advising, recruitment, retention, and administrative excellence. The position requires providing comprehensive academic advising and support to prospective and current nursing students, promoting student persistence and graduation, and offering administrative support to faculty, professional staff, and students within the LSON. The successful candidate will possess strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and collaborate effectively with various campus partners to enhance the student experience in the nursing program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to advise multiple populations of students simultaneously.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Willingness to learn and become proficient in commonly used office and institutional productively software, student/faculty learning platforms and technology such as Skype, WebEx, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and direction.
  • Exhibit professionalism and high ethical standards for maintaining confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Provides academic advising for pre-nursing and undergraduate nursing students.
  • Presents to students at application sessions and other campus events.
  • Monitors and documents student progress from admission, progression through graduation regarding grades, GPA, degree audits and program requirements.
  • Maintains student files to ensure compliance with the LSON requirements.
  • Communicates concerns about student progress to student, faculty, and the Director of Nursing.
  • Provides administrative support to all members of the MUAC Nursing site as requested including the leadership team, faculty and staff.
  • Supports LSON daily functions including but not limited to the following: Arranges and attends MUAC LSON events including pinning ceremonies as indicated.
  • Facilitates the onboarding and off-boarding of Nursing full time/part time faculty and staff.
  • Arranges requests for building maintenance and IT needs of faculty/staff as requested.
  • Manages accreditation files including hardcopy and electronic files.
  • Maintains LSON files including updates, filing, and purging.
  • Communicates with Nursing faculty/staff on a daily/weekly basis, outcomes of delegated tasks.
  • Manages requests and distribution of office supplies, equipment, and other needs for Nursing faculty/staff.
  • Produces and edits correspondences.
  • Other duties as assigned.
