About The Position

Within the College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE) Office of Undergraduate Education, this role provides academic advising to undergraduate students pursuing EHE programs. The advisor understands the connections between academics and careers, offering guidance on academics, post-graduation plans, and basic needs, while making appropriate referrals. They develop relationships with students to provide holistic support and utilize a high level of curricular knowledge for degree planning and course selection. The position involves participating in team meetings, serving as a resource for new team members, advising students through orientation programming (potentially assisting with logistics), and supporting the EHE 1100 university survey course, which may include teaching sections. The role also entails initiating, leading, or completing simple to moderate special projects within the unit or with external partners, collaborating on team-based initiatives such as committee work, retention efforts, advising support, recruitment, and scholarship/honors student events. Occasional evening/weekend hours may be required.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or 2+ years of equivalent experience (Master’s required for teaching).
  • Years of relevant experience required

Responsibilities

  • Provides and documents one-on-one academic advising to undergraduate students, including advising appointments and emails.
  • Works to learn student goals to cater advising support accordingly.
  • Advises students on degree planning, course selection, major/minor exploration, and course sequencing using curricular knowledge.
  • Advises students on major and university probation.
  • Directs students to appropriate campus resources.
  • Identifies new resources and collaborations for working on student cases to ensure students receive holistic support.
  • Initiates, leads, or completes simple to moderate special projects within the unit or with external partners.
  • Assists in the implementation of unit-wide retention initiatives.
  • Actively participates in cluster-specific tasks and projects within either the Human Sciences or Education cluster of majors.
  • Assists in new student orientations; may assist in the planning and execution process.
  • May teach EHE 1100 College Survey course, as needed, and may help plan course materials and content.
  • Collaborates with the larger unit on a range of team-based initiatives, including committee work, retention initiatives, support of advising, recruitment, scholarship and honors student events, and other duties as assigned.
