About The Position

Coordinate and administer academic advising functions for University of Wyoming College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) students. Responsible for providing advisement in university and college requirements and procedures to prospective and current students, parents, and staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1 year work-related experience working with student populations, administration, program development, customer service, or related field
  • Understanding of FERPA and maintaining confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Psychology-related program, or a related field
  • Experience working in higher education or K-12 setting.
  • Experience with student information systems and/or database systems.
  • Knowledge of principles of academic and/or career advising.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, oral, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic, personal, and some career advising to students in the College of Arts and Sciences for select programs/majors, providing intentional advising while adhering to the requirements and regulations needed to complete degrees. Provide advising and information to non-A&S students who are interested in programs within the college.
  • Become and remain knowledgeable on best practices in advising. Develop a personal professional development plan and philosophy of advising statement. Participate in advisor observations. Collaborate with A&S Advising Center staff to learn and promote advising best practices.
  • Liaise with Senior Academic Advisors, Manager of Academic Advising, and faculty to establish a high level of understanding of curricular requirements, research areas, career objectives, opportunities for student involvement, transfer articulation, and degree requirement exceptions.
  • Utilize technology to accommodate online meetings and advising appointments with students. Use student information systems and databases to acquire and organize student information.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student files with curriculum planning, student goals, advising notes, recommendations, and other information related to student success.
  • Assist students with petitions and related forms, while maintaining accurate and concise documentation. Ensure timeliness, academic integrity, and confidentiality throughout the process.
  • Responsible for review and approval of student forms, as directed; evaluate transcripts and perform degree checks, as directed.
  • Attend advisor trainings and travel to regional and/or national professional conferences when possible.
  • Participate in new student registration and orientation events throughout the year.
  • Keep up to date on University and College policies and regulations pertaining to degree requirements.
  • Participate in limited college recruitment events, ceremonies, and other events as needed.
  • Assist with special projects, as directed.
  • Serve on committees, as directed.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
  • Attend professional development events including webinars and conferences as able.
