About The Position

The Temporary Academic Advising and Support Coordinator supports student success through proactive academic advising, student outreach, and individualized support services. This position works closely, primarily with first-year students, to help them navigate academic requirements, select courses, develop educational plans, and successfully transition to the collegiate environment. The person in this role serves as a key resource for students while supporting institutional enrollment and retention efforts. This is a full-time, five-month assignment, working on campus in Golden, Colorado.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential student information and accurate records.
  • Proficiency with technology and willingness to learn new student success and advising platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in higher education, academic advising, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of student development principles and best practices in academic advising.
  • Experience providing advising, coaching, counseling, education, student services, or related support preferred.
  • Experience supporting first-year, transfer, or academically at-risk students.

Responsibilities

  • Advise individual students and groups regarding course selection, academic planning, registration, and class schedule revisions.
  • Provide comprehensive support for students as they transition to and navigate the college experience.
  • Conduct routine and targeted outreach to students regarding academic advising, campus policies, registration requirements, and student success initiatives.
  • Assist students in understanding degree requirements, curriculum options, course sequencing, and academic policies.
  • Provide individualized support to students with diverse advising needs, including: Transfer credit interpretation and planning Academic challenges or concerns
  • Develop personalized academic plans that align with students’ educational goals while identifying and addressing potential barriers to success.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely advising records through the institution's online advising platform.
  • Learn and effectively utilize advising technologies and student success tools to enhance student engagement and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and campus partners to promote student success and retention initiatives.
