About Your New Role This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified Position. Being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this role, as permitted under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984. Applicants will be asked to confirm their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage, which may include a letter from a recognised Indigenous organisation or a statutory declaration, in line with accepted guidelines. We are looking for an Aboriginal Health Coach to deliver phone-based health coaching and support services for participants on our programs across Australia.

Requirements

  • Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Has a qualification in a health field (e.g. Nutrition, Exercise Science, Nursing, Health Promotion or Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice)
  • Can build strong relationships with different people
  • Has experience delivering health programs or services
  • Works well independently and in a team
  • Is well organised and good at managing time
  • Has (or is willing to get) a Working with Children Check and a police check

Responsibilities

  • Support families and adults over the phone through health coaching calls across our programs
  • Give simple, practical advice about healthy eating, moving more, and cutting down screen time, based on national health guidelines
  • Help families set small goals and make positive changes that last
  • Connect with communities and stakeholders to build strong relationships
  • Share your knowledge to help make sure our training is relevant for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal staff
  • Advise and support our team on Aboriginal cultural and community matters
  • Help with follow-ups, data entry, and promotional activities
  • Join in training and quality improvement to keep growing your skills
  • Assist with creating and adapting resources to make sure they are culturally safe and meaningful for Aboriginal families
