About The Position

Homes NSW is seeking Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are passionate about supporting community and improving housing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families. As an Aboriginal Client Service Officer, you will play an important role in walking alongside clients, families and community, helping people navigate housing services, sustain successful tenancies and access the support needed to thrive. In this role it is important to recognise and understand the importance of cultural knowledge, lived experience, community connections and understanding the unique challenges and strengths within community. We are looking for candidates who can build trust, communicate respectfully and work in partnership with community to help achieve the best outcome possible for families.

Requirements

  • Strong connection to community, with the cultural capability to work respectfully and effectively with community members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to build trust, communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with clients, community organisations and service providers.
  • Commitment to supporting Aboriginal people and families to achieve positive housing and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge working with clients experiencing complex circumstances.
  • Confirmation of Aboriginality form or written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work, which addresses the three criteria: is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.

Responsibilities

  • Build trusted relationships with local organisations and stakeholders, providing culturally responsive support that recognises the strengths, experiences and aspirations of Aboriginal people.
  • Deliver positive outcomes for clients, families and communities by leveraging cultural knowledge, lived experience, and community connections.
  • Support clients with housing applications, tenancy matters and access to housing assistance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal communities, stakeholders and service providers.
  • Connect clients with appropriate supports and services to meet their individual needs.
  • Support sustainable tenancies and contribute to stronger communities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver quality, client-centred services.
