About The Position

This position, known as a Student Support Instructor (SSI) in Lexington, is responsible for working directly with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The SSI implements individualized academic and behavior programs using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, including discrete trial instruction, task analysis, and naturalistic teaching techniques. The role also involves implementing programs to increase social skills and daily living activities, facilitating social interactions, and attending to students' personal needs and safety, which may include escorts, toileting, toilet training, and supervision during lunch.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Classroom experience preferred
  • ABA experience preferred
  • Experience and commitment to working in a racially and culturally diverse teaching and learning community.

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with students who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Implements individualized academic and behavior programs
  • Provides instruction using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), including discrete trial instruction, task analysis, and naturalistic teaching techniques
  • Implements student-specific behavior plans to decrease challenging behaviors and increase functional behaviors
  • Collects ongoing data and summarizes the data to monitor students’ progress
  • Implements programs in the home to increase appropriate social skills and activities of daily living, and facilitates social interactions when necessary
  • Models implementation of academic and behavior programs for parents
  • Gathers and maintains students’ materials, data sheets, and program notebooks
  • Responsible for any other duties assigned
