About The Position

Work involves planning and providing a daily program of developmentally appropriate, academically-oriented, nurturing, and enriching experiences for elementary school-age children. Work involves assisting with the administrative, and parent communication functions of the program. The employee is also responsible for implementing activities as planned, managing the program staff and operations, maintaining communication and relationships with the assigned school site administration and teachers, supervising students during activities, engaging in activities with the children, and maintaining relationships with the community. In some cases, the Assistant Site Coordinator is the spokesperson for the program, representing it to the community and the media. Reports to the appropriate supervisor. This is an 8-hour-a-day (10:00-6:00), Monday-Friday position and may require evening hours one time a month.

Requirements

  • Ability to assist teachers or other staff members in arranging conferences with parents, or in explaining relevant district decisions to parents.
  • Ability to work with a social worker, school nurse, guidance counselor, or other staff members in helping students and parents to utilize community service agencies.
  • Ability to plan and carry out programs related to family and school.
  • Knowledge of basic office equipment including utilizing Microsoft Office and Google.
  • Ability to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Ability to coordinate and continuously support instruction.
  • Ability to analyze situations, determine possible options, and make appropriate decisions based on the facts.
  • Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for students, etc.
  • Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc. using a prescribed format.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or higher from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • 3 years of successful work in a school setting after school enrichment setting, or daycare setting.
  • Works collaboratively with others, while creating an enjoyable work environment.
  • Exemplifies excellent customer service by making authentic connections with families, schools, and the community.
  • Strong background in North Carolina Course of Study.
  • Must hold a North Carolina license or be eligible for a license.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the A.S.P.I.R.E. PLUS program at the assigned school provides quality care that expands children’s experiences, extends their learning, and provides warm and caring support during the After School Program.
  • Assisting the principal with planning, developing, and providing monthly caregiver/parent program activities.
  • Coordinating the daily set-up and close-down of the program to ensure children have access to a variety of developmentally-appropriate program resources, interest centers, and activities.
  • Implementing activities as planned, leading, assisting, and acting as a role-model participant in both active and sedentary indoor and outdoor lessons, games, and activities; supervising students during activities.
  • Preparing and maintaining student, staff, business management, and programming reports, records, and other documents as required by the program’s administration.
  • Performing or assisting with various administrative functions of the program such as: composing, copying, and distributing monthly newsletters; planning and preparing activity schedules; taking daily attendance; duplicating materials; receiving and recording permission forms for field trips, etc.
  • Verifying meal availability and completing or reviewing meal rosters.
  • Using positive reinforcement and developmentally-appropriate guidance techniques and consequences to encourage appropriate behavior, and conferring with administrators and parents to resolve behavior issues.
  • Communicating with parents about children's daily activities; participating in parent conferences as needed; and notifying classroom teachers of children’s needs.
  • Helping orient staff and providing on-site training, and helping nurture creativity and professional growth in staff.
  • Helping facilitate the work of substitutes to cover staff absences.
  • Maintaining current certifications in CPR and First Aid; administering basic first aid and medications, and contacting parents or emergency services in case of a child’s illness or injury.
  • Assisting in maintaining a clean and orderly environment for the program.
  • Receiving incoming telephone calls, emails, and written correspondence and providing information regarding program operations, procedures, and regulations, or routing to appropriate personnel.
  • Attending workshops, classes, seminars, conferences, lectures, etc. to meet district professional development requirements and reviewing school-age care resources and professional journals as appropriate, to enhance and maintain knowledge of trends and developments in after-school care.
  • Managing facility.
  • Managing student discipline.
  • Assisting with scheduling program classes and activities.
  • Communicating with daytime teachers to monitor student progress in the After School Program.
  • Inventorying and monitoring program resources.
  • Submitting reports to ASPIRE Afterschool Program Administrator.
  • Enrolling students in the ASPIRE PLUS daily and summer program.
  • Using provided instructional, enrichment, and movement materials suitable for verbal and/or visual instruction of students with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturity.
  • Providing individual and group support designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.
  • Experience with varied forms of technology.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
