Location : The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance from Livonia Service Center in Livonia, MI or willing to relocate. General Summary of Job Responsibilities The Automotive & Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a wide variety of vehicles, equipment, and related systems to ensure safe and reliable operation. This position performs advanced mechanical troubleshooting, conducts required inspections, completes non-structural welding and fabrication work, and utilizes vehicle diagnostic and fleet management systems to support fleet operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance by inspecting, diagnosing, adjusting, troubleshooting, and repairing vehicle and equipment systems, including Hydraulic systems, Air conditioning systems, Brake systems, Fuel and emission systems, Drivetrain systems, starting systems, Charging systems, Electrical systems, Chassis systems, Engines and power plant systems, Alternative fuel systems Diagnose vehicle and equipment malfunctions using a variety of diagnostic tools, software applications, and testing equipment. Determine root causes of equipment failures and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Perform minor repairs to booms, buckets, vehicle bodies, and other equipment components. Conduct routine inspections of aerial devices, manlifts, and lifting equipment. Complete material lift inspections in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. Perform non-structural welding using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW/Stick) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG) processes. Perform acetylene cutting, heating, and brazing activities as needed to support repairs and maintenance. Access and utilize fleet management systems, operating systems, and service information platforms to review repair information, document work performed, and maintain accurate service records. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with two (2) or more years of experience as an Automotive & Equipment Mechanic or equivalent experience with hands on experience working with heavy machinery.
  • Must successfully meet the minimum requirements of the Automotive & Equipment Mechanic assessment.
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License within 89 days of hire.
  • Must be able to safely lift, climb, bend, and perform physical tasks associated with vehicle and equipment maintenance.

Nice To Haves

  • State of Michigan, Secretary of State | SOS - Mechanic Certification is preferred
  • National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification is preferred
  • Automotive Degree from Accredited School is preferred
