About The Position

This position involves teaching high school English Language Arts courses with a focus on developing students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, critical thinking, and analytical skills. The teacher will implement CommonLit as the primary ELA curriculum, adapting instruction to meet diverse student needs. Key responsibilities include developing engaging, standards-aligned lessons, teaching students to analyze complex texts, and using various instructional strategies to support a range of learners. Assessment of student learning through formative and summative assessments, and the use of data to inform instruction, are crucial. The role requires establishing a positive, inclusive classroom environment, providing extra help to students, and collaborating with colleagues and families. The teacher will also contribute to curriculum development, integrate technology, and participate in school-wide initiatives and professional development.

Requirements

Hold a Massachusetts 9–12 English Language Arts Teaching License
Hold a Bachelor’s Degree
Have strong written and verbal communication skills
Hold an unwavering belief that every student can grow and succeed

Responsibilities

Teach high school English Language Arts courses, with a focus on developing students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
Implement CommonLit as the primary ELA curriculum while adapting instruction to meet the diverse needs, interests, and learning styles of students.
Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned lessons that promote meaningful reading, writing, discussion, and student thinking.
Teach students to analyze complex texts, develop evidence-based ideas, and communicate their thinking effectively in both written and verbal formats.
Use a variety of instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction, to support a range of learners and provide appropriate levels of challenge and support.
Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments, and use student work and data to inform instruction and provide targeted support.
Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that promotes student engagement, accountability, and a love of learning.
Provide extra help and academic support to students as needed, including during designated support periods or after school.
Collaborate with other ELA teachers, special education staff, instructional support staff, and related service providers to support student success.
Participate in team meetings, data meetings, curriculum development work, and cross-content collaboration.
Contribute to the continued development and implementation of the school’s ELA curriculum and instructional practices.
Communicate regularly and effectively with families regarding student progress, concerns, and achievements.
Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress.
Integrate technology effectively to enhance reading, writing, communication, and student learning.
Participate in assigned duties per the contract.
Attend staff meetings, professional development, required training, and other meetings during the course of the school year.
Engage in ongoing professional growth, collaboration, and reflective practice.
Support school-wide instructional initiatives and contribute to a positive school culture.
Perform other duties as requested by administration.
