About The Position

Gowan Science Academy is seeking an 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The teacher's primary goal is to help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals. This role involves planning and delivering instruction, creating a positive learning environment, assessing student progress, and collaborating with administration and parents.

Requirements

  • Valid Emergency, Elementary or Secondary Arizona teaching certificate and appropriate endorsements as required.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes at designated locations and specific times.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for assigned classes, showing written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, communicating these objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of the students.
  • Strives to implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports.
  • Recognizes and evaluates student learning and other disabilities, seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develops reasonable classroom rules and maintains order.
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as needed.
  • Performs other necessary duties as assigned.
