About The Position

Hebrew Public is seeking a strong, student-centered Founding 8th Grade Math Teacher to help launch their first year serving 8th grade students. This role is a meaningful opportunity for an educator with strong math content knowledge, excellent classroom management, and a deep commitment to preparing students for a successful transition to high school. The teacher will use the Eureka Math curriculum to deliver rigorous, standards-based instruction that builds students’ conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, confidence, and readiness for the academic demands of high school. As a founding 8th grade teacher, this individual will also help shape the culture, expectations, and instructional foundation for Hebrew Public's oldest students. The ideal candidate believes deeply in the potential of all students, creates a classroom that is structured, joyful, and academically ambitious, and is excited to support students during a pivotal transition year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Strong math content knowledge and ability to make grade-level concepts accessible, engaging, and rigorous for all learners.
  • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to build clear routines, high expectations, and a positive classroom culture.
  • Ability to use student data to adjust instruction, address misconceptions, and accelerate growth.

Nice To Haves

  • Pennsylvania Math teacher certification, or active progress toward certification, preferred.
  • Experience working in urban school communities and a commitment to building strong relationships with students, families, and staff is preferred.
  • Experience using Eureka Math or another high-quality instructional math curriculum preferred

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-based 8th grade math instruction using the Eureka Math curriculum
  • Build students’ conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills
  • Create a structured, engaging classroom culture with clear expectations, strong routines, and high levels of student engagement and accountability.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet a range of student needs, including intervention, acceleration, and enrichment
  • Help establish the culture, routines, traditions, and expectations for PHP’s first 8th grade class
  • Support students in developing the academic habits, confidence, and self-advocacy skills needed for high school
  • Internalize and prepare Eureka Math lessons to ensure instruction is clear, purposeful, and responsive to student needs
  • Use student work, formative assessments, and summative data to identify misconceptions, adjust instruction, and plan targeted reteaching
  • Identify student strengths, misconceptions, and gaps in order to plan targeted support
  • Collaborate with grade-level, content, special education, multilingual learner, and leadership teams to support student success
  • Partner with families to communicate student progress, strengths, and areas for growth
  • Contribute to a positive school culture rooted in care, accountability, and shared responsibility
