About The Position

The 811 Utility Locator II supports 811 underground utility locating for Pinellas County Water & Sewer. This is a single-utility, field-based position with local daily travel and scheduled emergency/on-call coverage. The locator independently manages assigned tickets, handles nonroutine conditions, maintains accurate documentation, and provides practical assistance to less-experienced teammates. The assignment remains dedicated to one utility; additional utility types will not be added to the workload. The role requires applying appropriate electromagnetic locating methods within the employee’s training and authorization, verifying indications, recognizing limitations and conflicting information, and accurately marking the assigned underground utility. The locator manages ticket priorities and service commitments, communicates field conditions and service risks, completes documentation and safety requirements, and keeps equipment ready. Work may involve overtime, 50 or more hours during busy periods, and occasional overnight travel.
