About The Position

Ann Arbor Open K-8 School is seeking a full-time 7/8 Grade Mathematics Teacher. This position is responsible for teaching the district-approved curriculum, developing engaging lessons, and adapting instruction for a multiage classroom. The ideal candidate will collaborate effectively with students, parents, and staff, maintain open communication, and evaluate student growth. This role requires regular and reliable attendance and may involve other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education.
  • Valid, current elementary Michigan teaching certificate with EX 6-8 endorsement or secondary certificate with EX 6-12 endorsement.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and present information both in oral and in written form.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

Responsibilities

  • Teach district approved curriculum.
  • Develop lessons and instructional material to provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt to the curriculum needs of each pupil.
  • Adapt curriculum for a multiage classroom to engage students in learning that builds on individual needs and interests.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, students, and staff.
  • Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  • Evaluate academic and social growth of students, keep appropriate records and prepare progress report.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
