The primary responsibilities of this role include supporting the instructional process by facilitating learning, developing lesson plans, and delivering student instruction within curriculum guidelines. This includes collaborating with other staff to address classroom and school issues and responding to parent inquiries regarding academic and social-emotional matters. The ideal candidate has experience with the workshop model and project-based learning, possesses excellent subject knowledge, and has a sound understanding of Missouri Learning Standards and Common Core Standards. The teacher should be motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated to inspiring students academically and socially. Collaboration with staff for co-planning, co-delivery, and individualizing instruction for all students, including accommodating special needs and diversity, is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education
  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate
  • Excellent organization skills and an ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities
  • Demonstrated success in urban education
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and an ability to keep multiple stakeholder groups, including parents, teachers, staff, volunteers and partners, informed of critical issues, activities and schedules.
  • Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility and willingness to perform tasks assigned
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and teachers in the school environment and community.
  • Must pass an extensive background check.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

Responsibilities

  • Establish weekly objectives that align with the Common Core and Missouri Learning Standards.
  • Facilitate “hands-on” activities and projects that allow students to learn by doing and exploring.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom.
  • Monitor student’s progress, keep appropriate records, and prepare reports on a regular basis.
  • Use discipline models of BIST and Love & Logic to maintain a positive, encouraging learning environment.
  • Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
  • Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Assume responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Demonstrate gains in student performance.
  • Participate in meetings, training, and professional development.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating, etc.
