About The Position

Dayton Leadership Academies (DLA) is seeking a passionate and dedicated 6th Grade ELA Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. DLA is a high-need, urban school committed to the relentless pursuit of excellence for all students. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid state teaching certification/licensure

  • Effective use of technology (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, online attendance and gradebooks).
  • Demonstrate professionalism and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Skillfully manage individual, group and organizational interaction.
  • Communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and writing skills.
  • Use self-control, perseverance and physical skill to manage students.
  • Organize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Avert problem situations and intervene to resolve conflicts.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record and is punctual.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of classroom teaching experience preferred.
  • Lift, carry, and/or move instructional supplies and equipment.
  • Perform activities that may require reaching, crouching, and/or kneeling.
  • Travel to meetings and work assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons utilizing the Wit and Wisdom curriculum and high-quality instructional materials.
  • Ensure lesson plans align with the school's academic program.
  • Plan student interventions and differentiated instruction based on assessment data.
  • Collaborate with grade-level and house teams on curriculum and student needs.
  • Assist in preparing and implementing Section 504 and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Share knowledge and resources to enhance the educational process.
  • Create effective and engaging learning experiences aligned to Ohio State Standards.
  • Implement effective classroom management procedures and teaching techniques.
  • Vary instructional techniques to address individual learning styles and provide differentiated instruction.
  • Integrate technology into the instructional program.
  • Promote the proper use and care of school property and ensure student safety.
  • Evaluate student needs using formative and summative assessments.
  • Prepare students for proficiency on interim and state tests.
  • Evaluate student progress and assign grades using an online grade book.
  • Maintain high standards and uphold the student conduct code.
  • Communicate regularly with families for positive recognition and support.
  • Contribute to school-wide and student goals.
  • Implement school and district policies and procedures.
  • Supervise students at all times and during non-classroom activities as assigned.
  • Participate in school events such as open houses, family conferences, and award ceremonies.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit reports on time.
  • Serve on at least one school committee and/or coach/advise an extracurricular activity.
  • Coach other teachers and mentor tutors or residents as needed.
  • Monitor use of the Intra/Internet for compliance with school guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Perform other job-related duties as directed.
