About The Position

ACCEL Schools is hiring a 6th-8th Grade Science Teacher at South Columbus Preparatory Academy at German Village in Columbus, Ohio. The role focuses on delivering engaging instruction and creating a positive classroom environment that supports student learning and social-emotional development. The school serves students from early kindergarten through 8th grade and offers a college-preparatory program emphasizing hands-on learning and character education. The teacher will use school-approved curricula and research-based instructional practices, adapt lessons to students’ needs, monitor student progress, and support students’ academic and social-emotional growth. The position also involves collaborating with colleagues, communicating with families, participating in school activities, and contributing to a growth-focused coaching environment.

Requirements

Current, active Ohio teaching license in the appropriate content area.
Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
Comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment involving frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to properly manage confidential information.
Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks.
Experience working within an urban environment.

Responsibilities

Prepare and deliver lesson plans, modifying them as needed during the school year.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
Use research-based best practices in daily planning and classroom instruction.
Manage student behavior in the classroom.
Create a positive classroom environment that supports student learning.
Use school-approved curricula that reflect students’ diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms.
Communicate and meet with families about their child’s academic and social-emotional growth.
Incorporate technology skills into daily classroom practice to support learning.
Participate in planning and implementing non-instructional activities as needed.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervise students of various ages in different school settings, including the playground and cafeteria.
