About The Position

ACCEL Schools is hiring a 6th-8th Grade Math/Science Teacher at Montgomery Preparatory Academy in Dayton, Ohio. The teacher will deliver engaging instruction, support academic and social-emotional development, and create a positive classroom environment that prioritizes student learning. Montgomery Preparatory Academy is a public charter school serving EK-8 students, with a well-rounded program emphasizing character education and social-emotional learning. It is part of ACCEL Schools, a network of public charter schools serving students throughout the United States.

The teacher prepares and delivers lesson plans, differentiates instruction, monitors and records student progress, and uses research-based practices and school-approved curricula. The role includes managing classroom behavior, communicating with families, incorporating technology, collaborating with colleagues, and participating in non-instructional activities as needed. The teacher works in a growth-focused coaching environment involving frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.

Requirements

• Active and current Ohio teaching license in the appropriate content area.
• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
• Comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment involving frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to properly manage confidential information.
• Ability to supervise students of various ages in different school settings, including playgrounds and cafeterias.
• Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks.
• Experience working within an urban environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver lesson plans, modifying them as appropriate during the school year.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
• Use research-based best practices in daily planning and classroom instruction.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom.
• Create a positive classroom environment for student learning.
• Use school-approved curricula that reflect students’ diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
• Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms.
• Communicate and meet with families regarding children’s academic and social-emotional growth.
• Incorporate technology skills into daily classroom practice to support learning.
• Participate in planning and implementation of non-instructional activities as needed.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
